According to Montessori, children under six years old have an "absorbent mind." and "sensitive period". They absorb knowledge effortlessly from their environment when provided with the right kind of activities at the right time. They explore the outside world with their senses-by touching, seeing, hearin , smelling and tasting. The concrete, hands on experience help them to define abstract concept.
