Health
- Immunizations must conform to the requirements of the State
Sanitary Code.
- Not more than six months prior to admission and at least
annually thereafter, each child shall be given a thorough
examination by a competent physician. The doctor must sign
the health record form supplied by the school, and these are
kept on file at the school.
- Each parent must sign the emergency Medical Authorization
before the child may enter the School. This will be dept for
ready reference.
- The administrator will review with all staff members the
signs and symptoms of illness and proper hand washing and
disinfecting procedures. This review shall be given to each
new employee and discussed periodically at staff meeting.
Illness: (10:122-7.1)
Your child's health is very important to
us. By daily monitoring each child's health status, teachers
are able to maintain a better environment for the entire
class. Your cooperation in keeping your child home when
he/ she is demonstrating symptoms of illness will be greatly
appreciated by the teaching staff and the other children
who would normally be in contact with your child. Parents
will be called to pick up their child when the following
symptoms become evident:
- Severe pain or discomfort particularly
in joints, abdomen or ears.
- Acute diarrhea-twice the
child's usual frequency of bowel movements, with a change
to a looser consistency within a period of 24 hours.

Two or more episodes of acute vomiting within a period of
24 hours.
- Severe coughing or sore throat.
- Elevate
oral temperature of 101.5 degrees Fahrenheit or over, or
axillary temperature of 100.5 degrees Fahrenheit or over
in conjunction with behavior changes;
- Yellow eyes or
jaundiced skin;
- Red eyes with discharge, such as conjunctivitis.
- Infected untreated skin patches/lesions or severe itching
of body/scalp.
- Difficult or rapid breathing.
- Skin
rashes (excluding diaper rash) lasting more than one day.
- Swollen joints, enlarged lymph nodes, or stiff neck.
- Blood/pus from ears, skin, urine, stool.
- Unusual
behavior characterized by limited playing, loss of normal
appetite, confusion, listlessness.
- Symptoms of chicken
pox, impetigo, lice scabies, strep throat, roseola and coxsackie
(hand-foot-mouth disease).
- Diarrhea and /or vomiting
occurring more than one time. Children may not return to
school for 24 hours unless a doctor's note stating the child
is no longer contagious and may return to school is presented.
- Children with a fever of 100.5 degrees or above must
remain at home for 24 hours without a fever before returning
to school, unless a doctor's note stating the child is not
contagious and may return to the school is presented.

Mild ill children will be observed within the group for
worsening conditions.
- When children become ill parents
or guardians will be notified immediately. If parents are
not available, those listed on the Emergency Medical Form
will be contacted.
- In case of certain communicable diseases
the Grace Montessori school is required to file a report
with the county Health officer from immunized for some of
these communicable diseases, he /she will not be allowed
to attend during an outbreak until permitted by the county
Health officer.
List of reportable diseases:
German Measles,Hemophilus Influenzae, Measles, Meningococcus, Mumps, Tuberculosis,
Shigella, Whooping Cough, Giardia Lamblia, hepatitis A, Salmonella ,
An annual medical update must be completed by your child's
physician . Please advise the office in writing if your
child receives immunizations between these evaluations so
that your child's record can be kept current.
Medications
(N.J. 10:122-7.5)
Medication, Vitamins, etc., will only
be administered if the proper form is filled out completely
and on file.Medications cannot be administered beyond the
recommended dosage. All medications must be in original
containers. This also includes, cough drops, chapstick,
and baby wipes. Every medication must have a child's first
and last name prnted on the bottle. Siblings cannot share
medication. Medication must be for a specific purpose ,
is not given "as needed" (If the child is cranky'). Except
emergency medication, such as medication to counteract an
allergic reaction. Medicine must be taken home daily. Over
-the -counter medication will not be given for more than
3 consecutive das unless a doctor's written permission is
provided. Whenever possible , please try to arrange medication
schedules so that doses can be given at home. The Grace
Montessori School reserves the right to refuse to administer
medication to any child if necessary procedures are not
followed. The dispensing of medication to your children
is undertaken as a courtesy to you and will be discontinued
if parental cooperation is lacking.
